Library

Welcome to our school library web site!
Every student at American Elementary visits our school library with his/her class once a week. A typical class visit includes a read-aloud story or a short activity, as well as time to return and check out books. Many children find a new book and immediately sit down to begin to read and enjoy the story. The read aloud stories that are read to the children are chosen to introduce, illustrate or depict a particular theme, genre, literary device, curricular topic, or library skill. Our goal is to share the love of reading by introducing wonderful books to students.
Students may drop in and visit the library before school or during recesses to browse for books, play board games, work on homework, or visit with friends.
First and foremost, we are dedicated to the promotion of reading for pleasure and information. We know that voluntary reading is the best predictor of reading comprehension, vocabulary growth, spelling ability, grammatical usage and writing style. The Power of Reading by Stephen Krashen
